To begin participating in our email discussion groups, simply send your question or comment by email to one of the groups: , , or . If have not yet subscribed, your message will first be routed to the group administrator for approval, your subscription will be set up and your message will be sent to the entire group. Even if you would just like to read the discussions, be sure to subscribe to the group(s) as described below. Do not send administrative messages, such as “how do I change my password?”, to the group addresses. Instead send them to the group administrator.

Introduction

Our automated discussion groups provide members of Selected Independent Funeral Homes the opportunity to easily communicate with groups of fellow members through email. Ideas, questions, concerns and comments regarding the funeral service profession may be posted to the discussion groups, allowing participants to benefit from the experience and knowledge their peers. Our program includes the following discussion groups:

  • General - forum for general discussion of topics not covered in the other groups.
  • NextGen - forum for funeral service professionals in their twenties through fifties as well as those who’ve recently entered the profession.
  • Management Assistance Program (MAP) - focused discussion with the MAP network of preferred partners, programs and consultants offering support in funeral home management and operation.

Subscribing to Email Discussion Groups

Subscriptions are limited solely to individuals afflilated with member firms of Selected Independent Funeral Homes (and to partners of the Management Assistance Program, in the MAP discussion group only).

Contact the group administrator by email or at 1-800-323-4219 to have your subscription(s) set up. You may subscribe to as many groups as you like. By proceeding with a subscription, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the Rules of Use listed below.

You will receive a welcome message by email which includes brief instructions for participating in the discussion group, your password and a link to your personal subscription page where you may adjust the options for your subscription.

Your Personal Subscription Page

Use your personal subscription page to change your email address, password, digest mode and many other aspects of your subscription. You also may use this page to retrieve your password, list your subscriptions to other Selected groups and to unsubscribe. If you wish to change your email address, simply use your personal subscription page to change the email address used within the group.

Participating in Discussion Groups

Sending a Message - Use a discussion group to send ideas, questions, comments and concerns of a professional nature to your fellow subscribers. State concisely and clearly the topic of your message in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.

Replying to a Message - Using the “Reply” button in your mail program will automatically send your response to the person who posted the original message. Your reply will not automatically be shared with the entire group. This is done to reduce the volume of email each subscriber receives. However, if you feel your reply should be shared with the entire group, enter the group email address in the “To:” field of your email reply. The group email address is the name of the group followed by “@sifh.org”.

Note: Using the “Reply All” button in your email program will usually send your response to both the original poster and to the entire group as a carbon copy (CC). Doing this will send your response twice to the original poster. You can avoid this by removing the poster’s address from the “To:” field of your reply. Your message will then be sent to the entire group, including the original poster.

Discussion Group Etiquette

To ensure the best possible experience for all participants, we ask that you adhere to the following basic guidelines for discussion group participation:

  • Please send a message to a discussion group only when it contains information from which everyone may benefit. Messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" should be sent to individuals rather than to the entire group.
  • In all messages, identify yourself with a signature tag that include your name, location and telephone number. By default, your email address will appear in the “From:” field of a message you send to the group.
  • Avoid resending the entire message to which you are replying. Instead cut and paste the relevant parts into your response.
  • Do not include attachments with messages.
  • Do not resend a digest back to the group.
  • Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want people to know came from you.
  • Send your message only to the most appropriate group. Do not spam several groups with the same message.
  • Do not send administrative messages, such as “how do I change my password?”, to the group address. Instead send them to the group administrator.

Rules of Use

By joining and using a Selected Independent Funeral Homes (Selected) discussion group, you agree that you have read and will follow the rules of use shown below. In order to preserve productive dialogue, Selected reserves the right to suspend or terminate subscriptions for anyone who violates these rules:

  • Professional topics only. This program is reserved for discussion of professional funeral service topics best suited to this medium. Discussion of personal or non-relevant topics are not be permitted.
  • No prices. Discussions must not include pricing information. Refer to Selected's antitrust compliance guidelines for more information.
  • No unauthorized sharing. Do not share a posted message with people outside the discussion group without first obtaining permission from the original sender and all people quoted in the message.
  • No offensive content. Discussion groups are intended to stimulate conversation not create contention. All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive or illegal content is strictly prohibited. Comments are subject to libel, slander and antitrust laws.
  • No soliciting. Posting of commercial messages, use of discussion groups for sales or promotional purposes, and discussions regarding the use or non-use of specific vendors or suppliers is prohibited.
  • No unauthorized posting of copyrighted materials. Do not post any information or material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner.
  • Discussion groups are provided as a service to Selected members. Selected is not responsible for the opinions and information posted in these groups and it disclaims all warranties with regard to information posted in these groups. In no event shall Selected be liable for any damages arising from or in connection with the use or performance of any information posted in these discussion groups.
